I got all my submissions back, including the full. They are all passes, but there were some nice words in the rejections. The full pass was mainly due to the fact that the agent moved to a new agency that doesn't work with big fantasy book like mine. While it hurts a bit, it is the final confirmation of something it seems to be a real problem with my book, its length.
Of the almost thirty agents I queried in the past year, at least fifteen (some right out, and some after I asked) mentioned that the length of my book is a non starter. That's quite discouraging, as I see debut authors popping in bookstores with books of length at least comparable to mine, which clocks at 210K words. The takeaway is that there are few agents that don't mind, and I've queried at least 3 of them, but the odds go down significantly once you go over 150K.
Right now, I'm putting together a new list, keeping this in mind. It takes a lot more research, but I feel it's worth it. Querying someone that doesn't go past the first paragraph of my query because they see the word count is a waste of my time.
